From plastic waste to ice scrapers - and much more!
The journey of a special product that combines sustainability and community begins in a small factory in Nicaragua. The journey begins with our social and environmentally conscious projects: the Buy Food with Plastic events, where people from the surrounding villages can pay for a hot meal with collected plastic bottles. Christian, our truck driver, transports these bottles to our factory, where Johanna and Luis, our recyclers, take a close look at them. The lids and rings are removed from the bottles and everything is carefully sorted by color. PlastiCredits: An innovative approach against global plastic pollution
In 2021, around the world 391 million tons of plastic produced. About 12% of the world's waste is made of plastic. When plastics enter the environment, they never completely degrade. Instead, they break down into tiny particles and fibers known as Microplasticswhich pose a serious threat to fish, birds, other land animals and humans themselves. Larger pieces of plastic can transport invasive species and accumulate in freshwater and coastal environments, altering ecosystem functions. How can PlastiCredits tackle this problem?

Nicaragua Expedition (November 20 to 30, 2023) Gratitude for an unforgettable time - the unanimous conclusion after a 10-day trip to the country where Buy Food with Plastic was born: Nicaragua. The poorest country in the whole of Latin America, which was not originally on the travel wish list of the majority of participants. Nevertheless, 10 curious people from Switzerland and Germany decided to get to know Buy Food with Plastic Nicaragua with their own eyes from November 20 to 30, 2023. International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2023: Together against the global challenge
Every year on October 17, the "International Day for the Eradication of Poverty" is celebrated worldwide. This day reminds us that despite the progress our societies have made, poverty is still a global challenge. Our "Buy Food with Plastic" concept (a hot meal in exchange for plastic) is our contribution to the fight against poverty. At the same time, we promote environmental protection.

The Baler Machine - Efficient Recycling Progress for our Upcycling Factory in Nicaragua
With the purchase of a baler machine , we can make our factory in Nicaragua even more efficient and environmentally friendly. By compressing the plastic, we can transport more plastic per trip and use our storage capacity more efficiently. The baler machine thus improves our economic as well as environmental conditions and significantly increases our recycling capacity.

Nicaragua, a country with breathtaking nature, is facing a growing problem: Plastic waste. As in many parts of the world, the extent of plastic pollution is becoming increasingly apparent. The effects are devastating: marine animals swallow plastic, birds get caught in nets and plastic bags, and microplastics enter our food chain. More and more people want to combine their purchases with a good cause and at the same time support projects that are close to their hearts. We are also observing this development among our members and donors. With our Charity Shop, we are addressing precisely these needs by enabling direct and targeted support for specific projects. In addition, we create greater transparency and expand the possibilities for donations.
"Plastic Champ" competition for sustainable plastic disposal in Nicaragua
In Nicaragua, we launched the "Plastic Champ" competition. With this prize, we want to motivate the local population even more to save plastic bottles from the environment. At the same time, we are raising awareness of sustainable waste disposal and also recognizing individual commitment to a plastic-free environment. Already with the first competition, we were able to almost double the number of plastic bottles collected! Into the future with ambition and enthusiasm: Our impact plan up to 2025
After an impactful 2022, we want to carry the drive into the new year and continue to create positive impact beyond that. We have defined ambitious goals for the period up to 2025 and want to further expand our areas of impact. We created a healthy basis for this last year.
2022: A year full of highlights and a record donation!
2022 really was an incredible year for Buy Food with Plastic with countless highlights! There were also some lows. Nevertheless, we achieved a record number of donations and helped many people as a result. The launch of the World Changing Campaign 2.0 was particularly successful, so we can hit the ground running in 2023.
